Tuscaloosa- The first true home game for the Shelton State softball team was spoiled in a pair of losses to the Jones College Lady Bobcats. The Lady Bucs fell in game 1, 8-3 before dropping game 2, 5-0. The Lady Bobcats are now 3-0 against Shelton State this season after defeating the Lady Bucs earlier this 3-2 in Panama City, FL.
Game 1
The Lady Bucs fell behind early and were unable to catch up in 8-3 defeat.
Jones struck early christening the new stadium with its first home run, a 3-run shot from Mary Kimble Price that followed a leadoff walk and double.
Shelton State was able to cut into the lead after Laila Watkins led off the 2nd inning with a base hit and would steal second and come around to score following a pair of fielder's choices (Megan Wilbanks and Graidin Hass).
Jones was able to grow the lead in the 3rd as a leadoff walk, an error, and a sac fly plated a run. Laney Little added an RBI triple in the inning to push the Lady Bobcat lead to 6-1.
The Lady Bobcats would add again in the 5th as Mabry Eason launched a solo home run.
The Lady Bucs added a run in the 5th Reagan Landrum led the inning off with a double and came around to score on a Chloe Mitchell groundout. Arianna Shorter added an RBI base hit in the 6th inning.
Addy Shorter put the nail in the coffin with a solo home run in the 7th inning to give the Lady Bobcat an 8-3 lead.
Mackenzie Harper started in the circle, giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits. Chloe Mitchell threw the last two innings giving up one 1 run on 1 hit.
Game 2
Shelton State was unable to break through in game two thanks to a stellar performance in the circle from Lady Bobcat Breelyn Cain. Cain allowed just 2 hits in 7 innings of work striking out 3.
Karlie Beth Beasley grabbed the Lady Bucs first hit on a 2-out single in the 2nd.
Jones struck first in the 3rd inning as they posted 4 base hits in 5 batters to score 3 runs.
A leadoff double in the 4th inning set the stage for a Laney Little 2-run blast to give the Lady Bobcats a 5-0 lead.
Back-to-back triples to lead off the 7th would score one run for the Lady Bobcats pushing the lead to 6-0.
Jamie Hocutt led off the bottom of the 7th with a double and would later be thrown out attempting to score on an Arianna Shorter ground ball.
Karlie Beth Beasley took the loss for the Lady Bucs going all 7 innings, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits while striking out 6.
The Lady Bucs hit the road for Oxford, AL this weekend as they play College of Lake County (IL) at 12:00 p.m. and Indian Hills CC (IA) at 6:00 p.m. at Choccolocco Park,
