Lady Bucs Fall In ACCC Championship

Huntsville- The Shelton State women's basketball team fell in the quest for a 10^th straight ACCC championship on Saturday.

A hot shooting Wallace State Lady Lion team knocked down 9 trey balls enroute to pulling off the upset victory.

The Lady Bucs were led by Makala Hobdy and Alana Obianozie who scored 15 points apiece. Only two other Lady Bucs scored in the game, Lameria Thomas (8) and Julie Nekolna (8).  Thomas pulled down a game high 13 rebounds. The Lady Lions were led by Idaysia Mercer who scored 17 points, including 5-9 from beyond the arc, as she was named MVP.

The Lady Bucs started the game strong, grabbing a 17-8 lead after the 1^st quarter but Wallace State was able to claw back into the game tying it at 25 going into halftime.

The Lady Lions would hit 3 of their 9 trey balls in the 3^rd quarter as they took a 6-point lead (38-32) into the final frame. The Lady Bucs had the ball down 1 with just 13 seconds remaining but an Alana Obianzoie lay-up was no good and a Makala Hobdy 3 ball was off the mark at the buzzer.

The Lady Bucs now await the NJCAA selection show on March 16 to determine the future of their season.
