Bucs Celebrate Academic Success
Tuscaloosa- Shelton State Athletics celebrates a historic year both on the field/court and in the classroom
The Bucs took home three ACCC championships in baseball, women's basketball, and women's golf.
The women's golf team won their second consecutive NJCAA DII National Championship. The women's basketball team made an Elite Eight appearance in the NJCAA DI National Tournament. The baseball won a conference record fourth straight ACCC Tournament Championship and played in its second straight Super Regional.
Men's basketball and women's flag football both played for ACCC championships while men's golf won the NJCAA South District Tournament.
The Bucs cheer team finished runner-up at UCA Nationals and the women's cross-country team posted a second place finish at the ACCC championship meet.
The Lady Buc softball program crossed the 30-win mark for the first time since 2018-19.
Matching the athletic success was a historic year in the classroom for Shelton State.
The Bucs saw 68 student-athletes receive their diploma this spring, the most in department history. The Bucs also had 16 President's List and 44 Dean's List honorees.
A total 105 student-athletes were named to the ACCC Commissioner's Honor Roll List.
"Jessica Bates (JB) plays an invaluable role in the success of our student-athletes," said athletic director Cara Crosslin. "JB goes above and beyond to ensure each student-athlete has the resources they need to be successful, not just academically, but in every facet of their experience here at Shelton State."
Women's basketball led the way with a 3.49 team GPA, with sophomore Alana Obianozie being named the team's overall scholar-athlete and the departmental female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Six teams posted a 3.2 GPA or higher (baseball, men's cross-country, women's cross-country, softball, flag football, and women's golf) with baseball posting the highest team GPA in program history at 3.36.
Sophomore outfielder John Robicheaux was named male Scholar-Athlete of Year for the department.
Also, nine student-athletes were awarded full academic scholarships which set a new department record.
