Former Buc Mason Steele Selected in 10th Round of MLB Draft

TUSCALOOSA - Former Shelton State Community College right-handed pitcher Mason Steele was selected in the 10th round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday.

Steele, a two-way standout for the Bucs in 2024-25, was the 296th overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He becomes the fifth former Bucs player selected in the Top 10 rounds of the MLB Draft. 

Steele is the fourth former Bucs player drafted in the past six years. 

In two seasons with the Bucs, Steelers played in 112 games and hit .305 (96-for-315) with 91 runs, 22 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs and 69 RBIs. He also added 21 career stolen bases.

On the mound, he posted a 13-2 record and 3.06 ERA in 28 career starts. 

Steele was named the 2024 National Freshman Two-Way Player of the Year. He was named to the 2025 NJCAA All-American Team.

A two-time All-ACCC selection, Steele tied the school record with five RBIs in an NJCAA World Series game.

He played in two NJCAA World Series and helped the Bucs to a pair of ACCC Region XXII Championships. 

Steele played the 2026 season at UAB, where he posted a 6-3 record and 68 strikeouts as the Blazers No. 1 starter on the mound.
