Bio

Jessica Bates, known to everyone as "JB," is the passionate Athletic Academic Advisor at Shelton State Community College. With her steadfast dedication to the success of student-athletes, JB is a vital part of the institution.

JB’s responsibilities on the eligibility side include ensuring compliance with NJCAA, NCAA, NAIA, and Shelton State athletics requirements. She diligently maintains the eligibility status for each athlete, when they compete at the NJCAA but then also for when they transfer out to either Division I, Division II, Division III, or NAIA levels.

JB’s commitment extends beyond the playing field, guiding student-athletes through their academic journeys. She adeptly manages team study halls, oversees coursework, and assists student-athletes in selecting courses that fulfill their degree requirements while accommodating their rigorous practice and competition schedules. JB also ensures regular class check-ins to monitor academic progress and provides vital support in course planning for graduation and major-specific requirements at the university level.

In addition to her advisory duties, JB plays an active administrative role at all home games, providing essential support to the teams and staff.

Jessica Bates is passionate about her role, and her love for the job shines through in every task she undertakes. Shelton State Community College is fortunate to have such a dedicated Athletic Academic Advisor, who is committed to the growth and success of its student-athletes. JB’s unwavering dedication ensures that student-athletes excel both on and off the field.

Before joining Shelton State, JB worked as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for two seasons at Wallace State Community College her record was 55-11 and finished in the top 12 at the NJCAA National Tournament. JB’s collegiate education career began at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama, where she played collegiate volleyball before transferring to Troy University in 2011. In 2013, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport and Fitness Management.
