TUSCALOOSA - No. 5 Shelton State Community College baseball team swept a double header against Marion in the home opener on Saturday.
Shelton State (3-0) defeated Marion 13-7 in game one and posted a 6-2 win in game two to complete the sweep in the season-opening three game series.
The Bucs scored in nine of the 14 offensive innings and collected 18 hits, including four doubles.
Shelton State trailed 3-2 in the third inning in game one before scoring two runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth to take control of the game.
Freshman first baseman Glavine Lamberth stroked an RBI single in the third to put the Bucs ahead to stay.
Freshman shortstop Griffin Rardin delivered an RBI single in the fifth and freshman centerfielder Owen Anchors followed with a two-run single.
Later in the inning, sophomore catcher Grant Browning drew a bases-loaded walk and Lamberth added a sac fly.
Sophomore second baseman James Graphos ripped an RBI double and Lamberth delivered his second sac fly to drive in his third run in the sixth.
Sophomore John Robicheaux had a pinch-hit, two-run single in the seventh to cap the Bucs scoring.
Sophomore Kenneth Diddell (1-0), one of five pitchers used by the Bucs, earned the win with three innings of work.
In game two, the Bucs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore Jackson Henderson had a RBI single.
Rardin had an RBI single in the sixth inning.
Freshman left fielder Jarret Scott and Rardin had RBI singles in the sixth.
Scott also threw two scoreless innings in relief and struck out three.
Rardin went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader with three runs scored, three RBIs and one double.
Anchors had two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs in the two games.
Graphos had three hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Will Harrison (1-0) tossed two innings for the win.
Robicheaux had a solid day at the plate and on the mound.
At the plate, he reached base three times with a two-run single and a pair of walks.
In the mound, he worked two scoreless innings and struck out five if the six batters he faced.
Shelton State returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 10 with a doubleheader against East Central (Miss.) Community College at 2 p.m.
