Bucs Fall on Florida Road Trip Finale
PANAMA CITY – The No. 14 ranked Shelton State baseball team dropped the finale of its Florida road trip, falling 9-1 at No. 20 Gulf Coast State on Saturday at Frazier. Field.
Shelton State (6-5) committed four errors which led to five unearned runs the loss.
The Bucs spotted the Commodores a 4-0 lead after committing three errors in the first inning.
Another error in the second inning gave Gulf Coast State a 5-0 lead.
Freshman left hander Cobin Hamric (0-1) was charged with five unearned runs in two inning and suffered the loss. He allowed three hits and struck out three in first start for the Bucs.
Sophomore Peyton Zupancic allowed one run and five hits in three innings of work with one strikeout. Freshman Jarret Scott pitched one scoreless inning and added one strikeout.
Shelton State got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring one run on three hits in the frame and left the bases loaded. Freshman left fielder Owen Anchors and freshman catcher Micah Taguiam had back-to-back one-out singles, and freshman centerfielder Cody Kropp drove on the lone run of the game a two-out single. It was his first career hit and RBI.
Freshman Glavine Lamberth's pinch-hit single in the seventh inning accounted for the Bucs other hit on the day.
Gulf Coast State (8-11) added a run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the sixth inning. Davis Avera led the way for the Commodores with three hits and three RBIs.
Donovan Rabiei (2-2) tossed four innings for the win. He allowed one run and three hits, with three strikeouts and two walks. Gavin Jenkins tossed three scoreless innings for his second save.
Shelton State returns to action next weekend when they host Jones College in a three-game series, beginning Friday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
