TUSCALOOSA - Sophomore right-hander Eli Driskell and freshman left-hander Corbin Hamric combined on a three-hit shutout as No. 25 Shelton State Community College knocked off No. 1 Jones College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Driskell (2-0) fired 5 2/3 hitless innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
He stranded a two-out walk in the first and pitched around a two-out error in the second. He stranded two runners in the third.
The Bucs scored the only run of the game in the third inning on sophomore third baseman Slade Sullivan's two-out RBI single.
Freshman designated hitter Jarret Scott drew a lead off walk and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and ground out. Scott scored on Sullivan's base hit.
Driskell retired nine straight Bobcats hitters before issuing a two-out walk in the sixth.
Hamric entered the game after the walk at hit the first batter he faced before allowing a two-hit single to Brayden Quick to load the bases.
Chelsey Rhodes was called on to pinch hit and had a 2-2 count when he was called out for pitch clock violation to end the inning.
Hamric pitched around leadoff singles in the seventh and ninth innings for his second save.
He allowed three hits in 3 1/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Jones (15-5) tallied for a 5-4 win in the second game of Saturday's double header to take the series.
All three games were one run games and the last six meetings were decided by one run.
The Bobcats scored runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Kelan Guidry tied the game with a two-run double and Sanders Ainsworth brought home the go-ahead run with a ground.
Sophomore Will Harrison (2-2) allowed five runs on five hits in three-plus innings.
Cooper Rayburn (1-0) earned the win in relief.
Trevor Rodgers entered the game with two outs in the fourth inning and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced for the save.
Shelton State (7-7) loaded the bases in each of the first three innings but couldn't get the big hit for a big inning.
The Bucs scored two runs in the first inning but left the bases loaded when right fielder Collin Haney robbed freshman centerfielder Cody Kropp of a three-run double with a diving catch.
The Bucs made it 3-0 in the second on sophomore right fielder Jackson Henderson's sac fly.
Jones made it 3-1 in the third on an RBI ground out by Ainsworth.
The Bucs made it 4-1 on an RBI groundout by sophomore first baseman Grant Browning.
Freshman shortstop Griffin Rardin and freshman catcher Micah Taguiam had all four hits for the Bucs in the nightcap.
Rardin had two doubles in the game and four on the weekend.
Shelton State begins conference play next weekend with a four-game series against Lawson Stare. The Bucs will host the Cougars on Thursday, March 5 at 2 p.m.
