Baseball Run-Rules Wallace Selma
TUSCALOOSA - The Shelton State Community College baseball team posted a 12-2 run-rule win over Wallace State Selma on Tuesday afternoon.
Shelton State (11-8) scored in five different innings before ending the game in the eighth inning.
Sophomore designated hitter Grant Browning led the Bucs offense with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.
A trio of freshmen collected two hits each for the Bucs.
Third baseman Cray Fite recorded his first career hit and RBI on Tuesday. He finished with two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs scored.
Left fielded Carson Mann and centerfielder Colby Sommer both had two hits and one RBI.
The Bucs used five pitchers in the game, including two making their season debut.
Freshman Braden McCrary earned the start in his Shelton State debut. He allowed one unearned run and one hit in one inning.
Freshman Jackson Hunter, pitching for the first time since Feb. 18 worked three scoreless innings for his first career win.
Sophomore John Robicheaux struck out four batters in two innings in his first outing since Feb. 20.
Freshman Walker Craig retired all five batters he faced on 11 pitches. It was his first outing since Feb. 18.
Freshman Brody Black retired one batter in his collegiate debut.
Wallace Selma (9-14) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Aaron Burton had a leadoff double and scored on a wild pitch.
The Bucs took the lead with two runs in the second inning. Freshman first baseman Brooks Tunnell drew a bases loaded walk and Mann added a sacrifice fly.
Shelton State scored five runs in the third on RBI singles by Browning and Fite.
Selma added another run in the fifth when D'Quarius Banks had a leadoff double and score on a wild pitch.
Browning's two-run single pushed the lead to 9-2 in the seventh.
The Bucs scored two runs in the eighth for run-rule win.
Freshman catcher Aiden Carrizales doubled and scored when Browning had an infield hit followed by an error. Fite ended the game with a sac fly.
The Bucs return to action this weekend with a four-game series against Chattahoochee Valley.
