Baseball Scores Season-High 16 Runs in Win at Selma
SELMA – The Shelton State Community College baseball team scored its highest run total of the season with a 16-1 win over Wallace State Selma at Patriot Park on Monday afternoon.
The Bucs scored in five of the seven innings, including five runs in the second and seven runs in the fifth.
Shelton State (20-9) also became the first ACCC Division I team to reach the 20-win mark this season.
Freshman third baseman Glavine Lambert paced the offense with two doubles and five RBIs. He had an RBI double in the first inning and smacked a three-run double in the second inning. Lamberth added a sac fly in fifth inning.
In addition, freshman left fielder Jarret Scott, freshman catcher Aiden Carrizales, freshman right fielder Wyatt Howell, and freshman shortstop Cray Fite all had two hits against the Patriots.
Scott had two hits, including an RBI single in the seven-run fifth inning. Carrizales had two hits and scored two runs. He walked and scored in the fifth and singled and scored in the sixth. Howell posted an RBI single in the second inning and tripled and scored in the fourth. Fite had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. He had a two-run double in the fifth inning.
Freshman first baseman Brooks Tunnell recorded his first collegiate hit with a double in the third inning. He also drew three walks, scored two runs and had one RBI.
Freshman second baseman Ellis Hamiter walked three times and scored three runs. He also added one stolen base.
Freshman centerfielder Colby Summer also reached base three times. He was hit by a pitch and scored in the fifth and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth.
Freshman Griffin Rardin (1-0) made his debut on the mound. He recorded three strikeouts in a scoreless first inning.
Freshman Connor Jones fanned a season-high six batters in three innings.
Sophomore John Robicheaux fired two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Rardin, Jones and Robicheaux combined for 13 strikeouts, the second-most by the Bucs this season.
Selma (9-24) scored its lone run in the third inning, when Aaron Burton had a leadoff single and came around to score on three separate wild pitches.
Shelton State returns to action with a four-game ACCC series against Southern Union. The teams will play a double header in Wadley on Thursday, March 26 at 2 p.m. The Bucs will host the Bison on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
