Harrison Tosses No-Hitter; Bucs Sweep NW Shoals
April 3, 2026
TUSCALOOSA - Will Harrison said the thought of throwing a perfect game crept into his mind.
"The problem was I did think about it," Harrison admitted. "It was later in the game and I realized I had not thrown out of the stretch yet. That got in my head a little and I got three balls on the guy and ended up walking him."
Harrison's bid for the perfect game ended when he walked pinch-hitter Jacob Alexander to lead off the fifth inning. On the next pitch NW Shoals second baseman Brody Leathers hit a ground ball between shortstop and third baseman and Shelton State freshman shortstop Griffin Rardin made a highlight-reel play to turn a double play.
"That was very refreshing that the play was made," Harrison said. "Griffin made a great play and we got out of that."
Harrison struck out Caden Taylor with a 0-2 change up to complete the no-hitter.
"I made a few good pitches and when I got the change up call, I knew he'd go for that if I executed." Harrison added. "I executed my pitch, struck him out and at least I had the no hitter."
It was the second no-hitter by a Shelton State pitcher in the last three years. Caleb Pittman threw a five-inning, perfect game in a 14-0 win at Calhoun Community College on March 21, 2024.
Harrison's no-hitter is the fourth no-hitter this season by a pitcher from the state of Alabama, joining Stillman College right-hander John Roland, Jr., University of Alabama right-hander Tyler Fay and Wallace State Hanceville right-hander Jacob James.
Harrison's bid for the no-hitter was the only drama in a game the Bucs won 10-0 via the run rule to complete an impressive four-game sweep the Patriots.
Shelton State has recorded eight shutouts this season, good for third most in the NJCAA. The Bucs have now recorded at least one shutout against all five ACCC opponents this year.
Harrison (5-3) tossed five scoreless innings and struck out three for the win. In his two starts against Southern Union and NW Shoals he has thrown 10 scoreless innings and struck out eight batters.
Fysher Dalhke (4-1) was charged with the loss after he allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Shelton State (27-10, 17-3 ACCC) outscored NW Shoals 50-10 in the four-game series. The 50 runs scored are the second-most by the Bucs in a four-game conference series in the last 15 years. Shelton State scored 57 runs in a four-game sweep against Lawson State in 2024.
Leading 1-0, the Bucs scored six runs in the second inning to take control of the series finale. Freshman left fielder Owen Anchors had an RBI double to start the scoring. Sophomore right fielder John Robicheaux, sophomore second baseman James Graphos and Rardin all had RBI singles in the frame.
Shelton State added three runs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 10-0.
In addition to his dazzling play at shortstop, Rardin finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Shelton State needed a late-inning rally to secure the win in game one of Friday's double header.
The Bucs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 6-3 comeback win.
Sophomore third baseman Slade Sullivan started the rally with a one-out single to right field. The Bucs then loaded the bases with a fielder's choice and pair of walks. Robicheaux was hit by a pitch to bring home freshman pinch-runner Carson Mann with the tying run and Graphos followed with a bases loaded walk to scored sophomore first baseman Jackson Henderson with the go-ahead run.
Rardin followed with a two-run single to push the lead to 6-3. Rardin finished with six hits, including two home runs, seven runs scored and 10 RBIs in the series.
Freshman left hander Corbin Hamric (2-0), who retired all six batters he faced with three strikeouts, picked up the win.
Ty Reynolds (0-1), the third of four pitchers used the Patriots, was charged with the loss.
Shelton State took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Henderson had a leadoff single and later scored on a wild pitch. Freshman DH Jarret Scott added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Northwest Shoals (18-19, 9-11 ACCC) took its only lead of the series with three runs in the fifth inning. Parker Frost had a two-run single with two outs to tie the game at 2-2. Lawson Williams followed with an RBI double to give the Patriots a 3-2 lead.
