Baseball Wins Ninth Straight; Sweeps Snead State

BOAZ - No. 22 ranked Shelton State Community College baseball team extended its winning streak to nine straight games with a pair a lopsided wins over the Snead State Parsons at Emmett Plunkett Field.
The Bucs scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 10-4 in the opener. The Bucs finished off the day with a 10-1 run-rule win in game two.
Shelton State (30-10, 19-3 ACCC) has won nine straight games for the second time this year. The Bucs are 23-3 in the last 26 games.
The Bucs set the tone early with a four-run first inning.
Sophomore first baseman Jackson Henderson drew a leadoff walk and freshman left fielder Owen Anchors was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, sophomore second baseman James Graphos walked to load the bases.
Freshman shortstop Griffin Rardin hit a fly ball that was dropped by right fielder Cameron Palagach. The rolled towards the right field line and all four runners scored.
Rardin was credited with a sacrifice fly and RBI. The other three runs scored on the error.
Palagach atoned for his error with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Bucs added three runs in the third to push the lead to 7-2. Sophomore third baseman Slade Sullivan delivered a sac fly and Henderson added a two-run single.
Anchors tripled and scored on Graphos' RBI ground out to make it 8-2 in the fourth.
Snead State got one run back and had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the inning.
Freshman left hander Corbin Hamric came in out of the bullpen and put out the fire with a strikeout and double play.
Anchors added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to make it 9-3.
Blaze Gerhart answered with an RBI double in the bottom of the frame to make it 9-4.
Graphos doubled and scored on Rardin's RBI single to cap the scoring at 10-4.
Freshman right hander Jackson Hunter (3-0) got his first ACCC start and picked up the win.
Freshman Connor Jones, Hamric, sophomore Peyton Zupancic and freshman Jarret Scottalso pitched in the bullpen game for the Bucs.
Henderson led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Graphos, Rardin and freshman centerfielder Cody Kropp all had three hits.
The second game was much like game one for the Bucs.
Graphos, Rardin, freshman DH Wyatt Howell, and sophomore Grant Browning all had two hits in the nightcap.
Browning put the Bucs on the board with an RBI double in the second inning.
Shelton State tacked on four runs in third to take a 5-0 lead.
Graphos snacked a two-run double to push the lead to 3-0. Rardin followed with an RBI double to make it 4-0. Rardin scored on error to push the lead to 5-0.
Kropp and Henderson had RBI singles in the fifth to increase the lead to 7-0.
Snead State (27-16, 13-9 ACCC) avoided the shutout on Forrest Heacock's RBI single in the fifth.
The Bucs added three runs in the seventh inning to make it 10-1. Rardin had a two-run single and Kropp drove in a run with a ground out.
Sophomore right-hander Eli Driskell (7-1) allowed one unearned run on two hits in five innings for his seventh win. He struck out six, but walked five.
Sophomore Kenneth Diddell retired all six batters he faced out of the pen.
The series continues on Saturday, April 11 wtih a doubleheader at 2 p.m in Tuscaloosa.
