Bucs Drop Walk Fest
April 14, 2026
TUSCALOOSA - The No. 22 ranked Shelton State Community College baseball team saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end with 16-12 loss to Central Alabama Community College on Tuesday afternoon.
The two teams combined for 445 total pitches, 28 runs, 25 runners left on base, 22 hits, 22 walks, 16 pitches used, and eight hit batters in the nearly four-hour game.
Oh, and both teams had a catcher one mound to end the game.
Sophomore Grant Browning recorded the final out for the Bucs.
JD Oakes got the final two outs for his first career save for the Trojans.
Shelton State allowed a season high 16 runs and 17 walks.
Dalton Fink (1-0) was credited with the win.
Freshman Jarret Scott (0-1) took the loss.
Central Alabama (18-29) scored five runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-6 lead.
Shelton State (33-10) tied the game with two runs in the seventh on RBI singles by freshman Scott and sophomore pinch-hitter James Graphos.
CACC put five more runs on the board in the eighth inning and pushed three more across in the ninth for a 16-8 lead.
Brady Thomas paced the Trojans offense, going 4-for-6 with three runs scored and five RBIs.
The Bucs scored four runs in the ninth off three different pitchers and had the tying run at the plate when the game finally ended.
Graphos drew a bases-loaded walk and freshman pinch-hitter Owen Anchors was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Browning smoked a two-run double into the left field corner to pull the Bucs to within 16-12.
Sophomore shortstop Landon Ingram was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases.
Freshman left fielder Carson Mann, who had walked three times, stepped into the box representing the tying run.
Appropriately, this game ended with a bizarre double play.
Mann popped up and was out due to the infield fly rule. The ball hit Oakes in the chest and fell to the ground. Oakes picked up the ball and the Trojans eventually tagged Anchors out between home and third to end the game.
Freshman second baseman Will Hamiter had a two-run single into the second inning for the Bucs.
Shelton State returns to action on Thursday, April 16 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Coastal Alabama South.
