Baseball Splits Doubleheader

TUSCALOOSA - The No. 22 Shelton State Community College baseball split its ACCC doubleheader with Coastal Alabama South on Thursday, dropping game one 4-2, before rebounding with an 11-1 run-rule win in game two.
Shelton State (32-13, 21-4 ACCC) saw its 14-game home ACCC winning streak snapped with the game one loss.
The Bucs rebounded for its 14th run-rule win of the season. Shelton State had run-ruled six of its seven ACCC opponents at least once.
Shelton State scored four runs the first inning to take a 4-0 lead in the nightcap.
Sophomore first baseman Jackson Henderson smoked a double off the left-center field fence. Freshman left fielder Owen Anchors followed with an RBI single to right
Sophomore right fielder John Robicheaux drew a walk, and after one out freshman Gruffin Rardin blasted a three-run home run to left to give the Bucs the early lead.
The Bucs doubled their lead to 8-0 in the fourth inning.
Freshman third baseman Ellis Hamiter, who made his first ACCC start, drew a leadoff walk.
After a sacrifice bunt by freshman catcher Drew Ollis, Henderson walked to put two runners on base.
After a double steal, Anchors lined a single to right to score Hamiter with the first run of the inning.
Henderson scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0. Sophomore James. Graphos made it 7-0 with a sacrifice fly.
Rardin capped the inning with an RBI single to push the lead to 8-0.
Rardin finished 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. For the day he had three hits and five RBIs.
On defense, he started two highlight reel double plays, giving them 39 on the season.
Ollis made it 9-0 with a sac fly in the fifth.
Sophomore right hander Eli Driskell (8-1) continued his dominant season on the mound with his league-leading eighth win.
He allowed one run and four hits, with seven strikeouts en route to his ACCC best third complete game.
Nicholas (1-4), a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School, took the loss. He allowed seven runs on four hits and six walks in three-plus innings.
Sean Greene's pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth was the Coyotes lone run.
Ollis stroked a two-run double into the left field corner to make it 11-1 to end the game.
Ollis finished with three RBIs. Freshman center fielder Cody Kropp added two hits.
Coastal Alabama South right-hander Seth Payne tossed six innings for the win in game one. Payne, who held the Bucs scoreless through five innings, allowed two runs on three hits.
The Bucs trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and cut the deficit to 3-2 before leaving the tying run on base.
Graphos laced a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Rardin's infield ground out brought Graphos home with the first run.
Kropp delivered an RBI double to make a 3-2 game.
Payne homered in the seventh to extend the Coyotes lead to 4-2.
Coastal South scored the first on a fielder's choice in the second inning and Carson Carrera added a two-run single in the fourth.
The series moved to Bay Minette on Saturday for a Noon doubleheader.
