Baseball Drops 1-Run Game

FAYETTE - The No. 22 ranked Shelton State Community College baseball team suffered a 5-4 loss in the final non-conference game of the regular season on Monday afternoon.
Bevill State scored four runs in the first innings, taking advantage of three walks, one hit batter and one error.
Nicholas Peters and Drake McBride drew bases-loaded walks to give the Bears a 2-0. Gage Wilson grounded into a double to bring home the third run and Kyle Nunnally's RBI single made it 4-0.
Freshman Jackson Hunter (0-0) allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning and took the loss.
Blake Woodall (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings and was credited with the win.
The teams traded runs in the third innings.
Freshman right fielder Colby Sommer stroked a leadoff double and later scored on throwing error.
The Bears added a run in the bottom of the inning on three walks and a passed ball.
In all, the Bucs walked eight and hit two batters. Shelton State also made two errors.
Shelton State (35-13) loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth inning, but failed to score.
The Bucs loaded the bases again in the seventh, this time pushing three runs across to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Freshman centerfielder Jarret Scott led off with a single and freshman catcher Micah Taguiam was hit by a pitch.
Sommer walked to load the bases. He finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one walk. He also recorded an outfield assist, throwing a Bevill State runner out at the plate.
After freshman pinch-hitter Mac Graham struck out, freshman second baseman Ellis Hamiter and freshman first baseman Glavine Lamberth both delivered RBI singles to pull the Bucs to within 5-3.
Hamiter reached base four times, with two hitsand two walks. He also had one RBI.
Sommer scored on a passed ball to make it 5-4. With runners at second and third and one out, sophomore shortstop Slade Sullivan struck out and freshman DH Wyatt Howell grounded out to end the threat.
The Bucs put two men on base in the eighth and ninth innings, but failed to get the tying run home.
Cale Tittle survived a shaky ninth for his seventh save.
Shelton State will face Gadsden State in a four-game ACCC series beginning Thursday, April 23 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Gadsden.
