Baseball Gets Walk-Off Win; Advances to Championship Game

OXFORD, Ala. – The No. 16 ranked Shelton State baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 7-6 walk-off win over Southern Union in the winner's bracket final at the 2026 ACCC Tournament on Saturday at Choccolocco Park.
Shelton State (43-14) advances to its fourth straight championship game, which will be played Sunday, May 10 at Noon. The Bucs will face either Southern Union or Wallace State Hanceville in Sunday's championship game. The Bucs will need only one win to claim the championship, while the other team will need two wins.
Southern Union led 6-2 entering their final at-bat as left hander Seth Erikson held the Bucs inning.
Shelton State sophomore third baseman Slade Sullivan led off the ninth with a single to right field. Freshman centerfielder Cody Kropp followed with a walk. Freshman catcher Micah Tagiaum followed and blasted a three-run home run on the 152nd pitch of the game to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Erikson allowed five runs on four hits in eight-plus innings, with 12 strikeouts and seven walks. The 12 strikeouts and seven walks were both season highs.
Southern Union turned to freshman right hander Devon Alleyne after the home run. Alleyne walked sophomore first baseman Jackson Henderson and sophomore second baseman James Graphos, and a wild pitch on ball four ball sent Henderson to third base.
The Bison then turned to the third pitcher of the inning Maddox Frazier.
Freshman shortstop Griffin Rardin, who narrowly missed a game-winning, three-run home run, delivered a sac fly to right field to score Henderson with the tying run.
Freshman left fielder Owen Anchors was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second base. Sophomore John Robicheaux popped up for the second out of the inning.
Freshman Glavine Lamberth was inserted into the lineup as a pinch hitter and lined a 1-1 pitch into right field to score Graphos with the winning. It was Lamberth's team-best seventh pinch-hit of the season.
"Coach Vick (assistant coach Jake Vickerson) always tells to be ready when our number is called," Lamberth said. "I knew the situation and was looking for a fastball and I put a good swing on it."
Sophomore Kenneth Diddell (5-1) retired six of the eight batters he faced for the win.
Alleyne (4-2) took the loss for the Bison.
Southern Union (37-19) scored all six runs on three home runs.
Colton Armstrong belted a solo home run in the third inning to put the Bison on the board. Jackson Farlow added a two-run homer in the third to make it 3-0.
The Bucs staged a two-out rally to cut the lead to 3-2 in a 33-pitch fourth inning against Erikson. Robichaux drew a walk and pitcher Tanner Hermesch hammered a double to right field to put runners at second and third. Sullivan then walked to load the bases. Kropp was hit by a pitch to bring home the first run and Tagiaum drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-2. Erikson struck out Henderson to leave the bases loaded.
Armstrong hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to extend the Bison lead to 6-2.
Hermesch worked 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts on the mound. Both were season highs. He also reached base twice as designed hitter with a walk and a double.
