Baseball Bashes LSU Eunice

EUNICE, La. – The No. 16 ranked Shelton State Community College baseball team hit a season-high four home runs in a 14-6 win over No. 6 LSU Eunice in the opening game of the 2026 NCAA South District Championship.
Shelton State (46-14) leads the best-of-three series, 1-0. The Bucs need one more win to secure its ninth trip to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. The teams will meet in Game 2 of the series on Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. (CT). Shelton State will be the designated home team.
Freshman shortstop Griffin Rardin, freshman DH Jarret Scott, freshman catcher Drew Ollis and freshman left fielder Owen Anchors all homered in the win.
Ollis reached base five times and scored four runs in the win. He hit his first career home run in the fifth inning.
Rardin homered in the third inning and finished with four RBIs.
Scott hit an opposite field home run in the Bucs three-run fifth inning.
Anchors delivered the knockout put with a grand slam in the five-run eighth inning.
The 14 runs scored by the Bucs were the most against LSU Eunice since March 25, 2017 when Temple College scored 14 runs in a 16-14 loss to the Bengals.
Sophomore second baseman James Graphos snapped a 6-6 tie with an RBI single in the eighth inning to score Ollis and give the Bucs a 7-6 lead.
Ollis drew a one-out walk and sophomore Jackson Henderson was hit by a pitch prior to Graphos' base hit to center.
Rardin was hit by pitch to load the bases and Anchors slammed his seventh home run of the season and second grand slam to right center field to push the lead to 11-6.
The Bucs added three more runs in the ninth when Henderson drew a bases-loaded walk and Rardin added a two-run single.
Sophomore right hander Kenneth Diddell (5-1), who pitched out of a jam in the seventh inning, picked up the win. He allowed two hits and 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Ian Carlson (0-1), fourth of eight pitchers used by the Bengals, was the losing pitcher.
LSU Eunice (44-11) scored two unearned runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Marshall Louge recorded a two-run double to get the Bengals on the board.
Rardin made it a 2-1 game with a solo home run in the fourth inning. It was his sixth homer of the season.
The Bucs took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on Henderson's RBI single and Rardin's sac fly.
Shelton State stretched the lead to 6-2 with a pair of home runs in the sixth inning. Scott led of the inning with a solo home run, his second of the season, and Ollis added a two-run blast to dead center field to make it 6-2. It was his first home run of the year.
LSU Eunice got two runs back in the bottom of the inning on a pair of two-out RBI singles by Lougue and Tyler Mitchell to cut the deficit to 6-4.
The Bengals tied the game at 6-6 in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Tuscaloosa native Milo Obradovich.
