Shelton State Cheer Looks to Return to the Top
Tuscaloosa- Shelton State Cheerleading looks to end their 4-year drought and return to the top of the cheerleading world.
After winning 13 consecutive UCA Open Co-Ed national titles from 2008-2020, the Bucs have fallen short the past 4 seasons. New co-head Coaches Riley and Bethany Fowler look to take the Bucs back to the pinnacle in Orlando, Florida this weekend. "These athletes have been working their tails off all season and have really come together as a unit," said co-head coach Riley and Bethany. "They deserve success because of their hard work, and we could not be more excited for them to showcase that in Orlando this weekend." The Fowler's were selected to be a member of Team USA cheer from 2019-2023 along with assistant coach Terrance Hughes (2023-2024).
This year's squad is eager to put the Bucs back at the top. "This team is built on family and through family nothing is impossible," said sophomore Evan Hutchins. A sophomore heavy team, the Bucs are relying on the experience of not only their coaches but the athletes to carry them to a championship. "The trust and confidence we have built in one another from the beginning of the season until now is incredible and is a direct result of our hard work," said sophomore Caylee Smith.
The Bucs will perform at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida beginning on Saturday.
