Turnovers Plague the Lady Bucs
MONTGOMERY- The turnover bug bit the Shelton State Community College women's flag football team on Sunday.
The Lady Bucs (2-2) had eight total turnovers in losses to Wallace State Hanceville and Calhoun.
"We have got to get our offense going," head coach Doug Rogers said. "It's still a work in progress."
Shelton State threw four interceptions, in the 31-7 loss to Wallace State Hanceville.
The Lady Bucs trailed 12-0 at halftime and 18-0 midway through the third quarter before Kamryn Everroad hooked up with receiver Lanijia Seay for the Bucs first score.
The Lions scored the final 13 points to clinch the win.
Shelton State dropped a hard-fought 25-19 game to Calhoun in a back-and-forth overtime game.
The Lady Bucs grabbed a 7-0 lead when Evverroad connected with freshman Merritt Kelly for the game's first score.
Shelton State took a 13-12 lead into halftime when Everroad and Borden teamed up for the second touchdown of the half.
Calhoun scored on a pick six to take a 19-13 lead after three quarters.
"The defense did the work again," Rogers said. "The were put into unfavorable positions all day. Other than two busted coverages, they played pretty well."
Sevyn Walker posted six sacks and numerous hurries.
Shabreia Brannon had one interception and punter Jaidyn Paramore (Tuscaloosa County HS) had an excellent day punting the ball, according to Rogers.
The Lady Bucs forced overtime when Seay hauled in a 65-yard TD pass from Jayci Sullivan to tie the game at 19-19.
The Lady Bucs threw an interception on their overtime possession, while Calhoun scored on third down to post a 25-19 win.
Everroad threw three touchdown passes on the day. Seay was the leading rusher and receiver, and caught two of the four touchdown passes.
The Lady Bucs are back on the road Sunday, Sept. 28 against LB Wallace and Bishop State in Andalusia.
