Men’s Golf in Third Place After Day One at Coastal North Invitational
BREWTON – The No. 8 ranked Shelton State Community College men's golf team shot a 9-over, 297 on Monday and stands in third place after the first round of the Coastal Alabama North Invitational at Juniper Creek on Monday.
No. 16 Calhoun leads the tournament with a 1-under, 287 after the first round. No. 26 Central Alabama (296) is in third place, one shot ahead of the Bucs. No. 10 Jefferson State (300), No. 26 Coastal Alabama South (304) and No. 18 Snead State (304) round out the Top 5 team scores.
Sophomore Wyatt McDonald, freshman Reid Larson and freshman Cooper Layton and sophomore Brennan Northcutt are all among the Top 20 individual scores.
McDonald led the way for the Bucs with 1-over, 73 on Monday. He carded three birdies on the day and stands in sixth place heading into the final 18 holes.
Larson and Layton both shot 74 on Monday and are tied for 12th place. Larson had three birdies on Monday and Layton started hot with three birdies through the first six holes.
Northcutt shot a 75 and is 19th place after the first 18 holes. Northcutt and Michael Brewer (77) are playing as individuals and their scores do not count in the team totals.
Freshman Dane Galiano is 23rd after shooting a 4-over, 76. After shooting a 40 (+4) on the front, Galiano finished with an even par on the back nine, with seven par's and one birdie.
Sophomore Will Norton shot a 7-over, 79 and is in 39th place heading into Tuesday. Norton had two birdies and three par's on the back nine.
The final round will be Tuesday, Feb. 17.
