Bucs Finish Second at Coastal Alabama North Invitational
BREWTON - The No. 8 ranked Shelton State Community College men's golf team finished second at the Coastal Alabama North Invitational at Juniper Creek on Tuesday.
The Bucs were +17 over par in the two-day event. Shelton State shot a nine-over (369) on Monday and an eight-over (368) on Tuesday.
No. 16 Calhoun Community College won the event with an 11-over par. No. 25 Coastal Alabama South (+25), No. 10 Jefferson State (+26), and No. 18 Snead State (+33) rounded out the Top 5 team scores.
Freshman Reid Larson, sophomore Wyatt McDonald and freshman Cooper Layton all posted Top 10 scores in the tournament.
Larson shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish tied for second place at +2 for the tournament. Larson had two birdies and 14 pars on the final day. He was one of three golfers to shoot par or less on Tuesday, joining Trenton Ables (Wallace CC) and Jacob Myrick (Coastal South), who both shot one-under 71 for the day.
McDonald, who shot one-over 73 on both days, also finished tied for second place with a +2 for the tournament. McDonald has four birdies on Tuesday, including No. 14 and No. 15 on the back nine.
Both Larson and McDonald made the All-Tournament Team.
Layton finished eighth with a three-over 147 for the two-day event. He shot a one-over par 73 on Tuesday and posted six birdies on the day.
Sophomore Michael Brewer finished tied for 17th with a +6 two-day total. Sophomore Brennan Northcutt shot 10-over to finish tied for 28th at the event. Freshman Dane Galiano finished with a +11 to tie for 34th place. Sophomore Will Norton shot +13 for the event and finished 43rd place.
Coastal Alabama South's Judah Talley was the individual champion with an even-par 144.
