"I am super excited about competing on Friday," third-year head coach Charles Tiller said. "Both teams have worked hard and had their own successes this season."
Both teams are nationally ranked heading into Friday's meet. The women's team is ranked No. 18, while the men are ranked No. 12, the highest ranking in school history.
The women's top seven runners include, sophomore Hattie Hurst (Demopolis), freshman Maya Jones (Hamilton), freshman Hannah Berryman (Hatton), freshman Amari Simmons(Huntsville), freshman Emma Heppner (Oregon), freshman Gracie Hall (Haleyville), and freshman Anna Peak (Eufaula).
Hurst was the Lady Bucs top runner in three of the four meets she has competed in this fall. Jones was the Lady Bucs top runner once.
"Hattie has been our most consistent runner this season," Tiller said. "Maya has run really well. We have some real depth on this team."
The women's team has finished second at the ACCC Championships each of the last two years.
The men are having their best season in program history.
The lineup includes freshman Drew Dykes (Cold Springs), freshman Isaiah Crosslin(Hatton), freshman Logan Rogers (Northside), freshman Ben Guthrie (Lincoln) and sophomore Brady Jones (Fayette).
"We have a chance to finish in Top 10 nationally," Tiller said. "I have some really good freshman. They have done some great things this season. I think they will have a good meet."
Dykes ran a school-record 27:06 at the UAH Invitational on Oct. 11 at the same course Friday's meet will
be contested.
"The freshman have done great things, it's a solid group," Tiller said. "We are fortunate to go that deep."
Tiller also said that freshmen Matthew Waldrop (Brookwood) and Dane Ard (Decatur) could also play a role in this week's meet.
