Lady Bucs Roll Past Southern Union
WADLEY - The No. 4 ranked Shelton State Community College women's basketball team scored with ease in a 99-44 win over Southern Union Thursday night.
It was so easy the Lady Bucs even held a 1-0 lead before the opening tipoff.
Freshman Nadia Norfleet sank a free throw after the Lady Bison was assessed an administrative technical.
Once the game began, freshman Ella Wheeler hit back-to-back three-pointers as the Lady Bucs jumped out to a 17-1 lead.
Southern Union (9-14, 2-10 ACCC) didn't make its first basket until the 3:16 mark of the first quarter.
By the end of the period, Shelton State led 35-6. The lead grew to 57-21 by halftime.
Redshirt freshman Bri Adams led all scorers with 18 first-half points, including 14 in the first quarter.
The second half was a duplicate of the first half. The Lady Bucs led 80-37 after three quarters, and held the Lady Bison to seven points in the fourth quarter.
Shelton State (25-3, 11-1 ACCC) shot 54.4 percent (37-for-68), marking the time this season the Lady Bucs shot 50 percent or better from the floor.
Wheeler led the way with 19 points with four rebounds, four assists and one steal. She made 7-of-11 field goal attempts, including a season-high five 3-pointers.
Adams finished with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, all in the first half. She added eight rebounds and one assist.
Freshman Haley Trotter had 11 points and 12 rebounds, her second straight double-double. She has nine double figure rebound games.
Sophomore Arissa Jenkins added 13 points, five rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots.
Takerriana Mosley led the Lady Bison with 17 points.
Shelton State will host Gadsden State on Monday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. The final home game of the season will feature Sophomore Night and Faculty-Staff Appreciation Night.
