Women’s Golf Captures FGC Invitational
LAKE CITY, Fla. - The No. 1 ranked Shelton State women's golf team captured the FGC Invitational at Quail Heights Country Club.
The Lady Bucs shot a two-day total of 710 (+72) to run away with the event. The Lady Bucs were +37 over on Monday and +35 over on Tuesday.
No. 3 Florida Gateway College (+102) finished second, 30 shots behind Shelton State. No. 4 Wallace State Hanceville (+125), No. 7 Jeff State (+131), and No. 12 Southern Union (+148) round out the top five.
"Always good to get a win at a tournament," head coach Chris Sanford said. "We didn't play our best, but it wasn't bad either. It was the first tournament of the spring, and we looked rusty."
Shelton State had six players finish in the Top 12, including five in the Top 10.
Emma Bark led the way with a fourth-place finish to earn All-Tournament honors. Bark finished +16 in the two-day event.
Sawyer Hobbs finished fourth with a +17 tournament score. She shot 38 on the back nine Tuesday with one birdie and four pars.
Riley Fritz finished fifth at + 18 in the event. She made two birdies and two pars on the nine.
Katie Hallmark was +21 and finished ninth. She had one birdie and seven pars on Tuesday.
Katie Brannon finished 12th with a +25 score.
"We gave away some shots we don't normally lose," Sanford said "It gives us things to clean up and get ready for Mobile. I am happy and proud of the girls for coming out on top."
Addison Davis and Kelsey Mason both competed individually and their scores did not count towards team totals.
Davis finished 10th and shot +23 in the tourney. She birdied the 18th to finish with a 38 on the back nine.
Mason finished 30th with a +43 two-day score.
The next tournament takes place Feb. 23-24 at Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile.
