Bucs Down Reid State in Season Opener
DECATUR - The Shelton State Community College men's basketball team had a successful debut with an 85-62 win over Reid State Technical College at the Calhoun Community College at Kelley Gymnasium.
It also marked a successful debut for head coach Joe Eatmon, who began his second tenure with the Bucs on Friday.
"I'm proud of the guys today," Eatmon said. "We played hard. Our goal is to go out and get better every night and we did that tonight. We've got a long way to go but we're heading in the right direction."
Freshman guard Anderson Wilkin, sophomore guard DJ Hamlett and sophomore guard Marchello Perkins all reached double digits in the win.
Wilkin (Northridge HS) led all scorers with 16 points. He made four three-pointers and added three steals.
Hamlett (Hillcrest HS) poured in 14 points and added six rebounds. He made 5-of-10 field goal attempts.
Perkins (Bryant HS) added 11 points and made both three point shots.
Shah Hall (Hillcrest HS) had eight points and seven rebounds. Terrance Pruitt (Huntsville) added nine points and six boards.
Shelton State (1-0) shot 58.4 percent from the floor, making 31-of-53 shots. The Bucs hit an astounding 21-of-29 (.724) two-point field goals and 10-of-24 (.417) three-point shots.
The Bucs finished with 37 rebounds, 14 steals and 11 assists.
Shelton State will face Wallace State-Selma on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in day two of the Calhoun Classic.
