Men's Basketball Falls at Co-Lin, 61-54
SUMMITT, Miss. - The Shelton State Community College men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 61-54 at Copiah-Lincoln on Monday night.
Shelton State (3-1) had season-lows in points, field goals made and three-point field goals made.
The Bucs only shot 32.1 percent (17-for-53) from the field and 20 percent (4-for-20) from beyond the arc. The Bucs also had 17 turnovers.
Co-Lin (3-2) made 21-of-48 (43.8 percent) of its shots, including four 3-pointers. The Wolves also made 15-of-18 free throws.
Shelton State led 27-26 at halftime, but fell behind 37-30 at the 15:52 mark to start the second half.
Neither team shot well in the second half, but the Wolves managed to take a 55-42 lead with six minutes after making eight straight foul shots.
Shelton State never got closer than seven points the rest of the game.
Copiah-Lincoln scored the first seven points of the game and led 13-6 on a layup by Morris Hammond with 12:36 left in the first half.
The Bucs scoredcthe next eight points to take its first lead at 14-13 with 9:02 left. King Larkin started the run with a layup and Anderson Wilkin buried two 3-pointers for the lead.
Co-Lin grabbed an 18-14 lead before Wilkin added five more points on a three-pointer and a layup to give the Bucs the 19-18 lead.
Fred Derrick's layup with 1:09 left put the Bucs up at the half.
Wilkin paced the Bucs with 16 points. He made five field goals, including four 3-pointers.
Fred Derrick added 10 points for the Bucs. DJ Hamlett added eight points and seven rebounds, while Rodwick Jackson had seven points and five rebounds.
Koie Williams (19), Tyrell Bowles (18) and Dylan Claggett (18) scored 54 of the Wolves 64 points.
The Bucs return home to begin a four-game home stand in Thursday, Nov. 13 against the Stillman College JV team at 7 p.m.
