Turnovers Plague Bucs in Loss to Columbia State
COLUMBIA, Tenn. - The Shelton State Community College men's basketball team had a season-high 22 turnovers in a 72-55 loss to Columbia State at the Johnny Littrell Classic on Friday.
Shelton State (11-3) never led in the game and had its three-game winning streak snapped.
Columbia State (11-2), who won its 11th straight game, scored 31 points off those Bucs miscues.
The game was tied 4-4 early in the first half before the Chargers took control with a 14-4 run.
Columbia State led 39-25 at halftime. The Chargers largest lead of the game was 60-37 late in the second half.
The Bucs only shot 37.5 (21-for-56) percent from the floor, including 8-for-31 (25.8) from beyond the arc.
Freshman Frederick Derrick (Huntsville) led the Bucs with 12 points. Derrick scored double-figures in both tournament games and finished with 28 total points.
Freshman Rodwick Jackson (Headland) finished with nine points. In two tournament games, he had 32 points.
Columbia State only shot 36.6 percent (26-for-71) and 21.1 (4-for-19) from beyond the arc.
The Chargers out-rebounded the Bucs 52-33, including 23-10 on the offensive glass. Columbia State had 20 second-chance points.
Columbia State had four players in double digits, led by Jamison Glass with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
After a lengthy holiday break, Shelton State returns to action Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 at Pearl River Community College.
