Bucs Make 15 3-Pointers; Take Down Pearl River
POPLARVILLE, Miss. - The Shelton State Community College men's basketball team made a season-high 15 three-pointers en route to a 78-71 win at Pearl River Community College on Monday night at Marvin R. White Coliseum.
Freshmen Marchello Perkins (Paul Bryant HS) and Devin Bowers (Lithonia, Ga.) combined for nine, 3-pointers in the win.
Perkins had a team high 17 points on 5-of-9 (.556) shooting beyond the arc.
Bowers added 12 points, on 4-of-8 three-point shots, and six rebounds.
For the game, Shelton State made 15-of-32 (.469) three-pointers.
The 15 three-pointers are the most by the Bucs since hitting 16 treys against Marion Military Institute on March 2, 2021.
The Bucs shot 50 percent (28-of-56) overall, including 13-of-24 (.542) on two-point shots.
Shelton State (12-3) needed every shot to hold off the Wildcats, who were led by Christian Gilliand's game-high 32 points. He made 13-of-19 field goals and 6-of-8 foul shots.
Pearl River (7-6) also stayed in the game by hitting 25-of-37 free throws. Shelton State made only 7-of-12 foul shots.
Sophomore Shah Hall (Hillcrest HS) added 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. He scored all 11 points in the final seven minutes.
Freshman Rodwick Jackson (Houston Academy) finished with eight points, including a highlight reel blocked shot and dunk to give the Bucs a 73-67 lead with 2:34 to play.
Freshman Mason Jones (Hillcrest HS) had five points, two rebounds and two assists in his season debut. He missed the first semester recovering from a knee injury.
The Bucs are back on the road this Thursday, Jan. 8 at East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss.
