Eatmon Gets 200th Win; Bucs Take Down Calhoun
TUSCALOOSA – The Shelton State Community College men's basketball team pulled out a 91-81 win over the Calhoun Warhawks on Monday night at the Umphrey Center.
The win gave head coach Joe Eatmon his 200th career win at Shelton State.
"This is from the hard work off all the players and assistant coaches at Shelton State," Eatmon said following the win. "I am thankful to the administration for the all the support here at Shelton State."
Eatmon is 200-45 (.816) in seven seasons with the Bucs.
Shelton State (14-4, 1-1 ACCC) shot 52.6 percent (30-for-57) from the field and equaled its win total from the 2025 season.
The Bucs shot 48.5 percent (16-for-33) in the first half to take a 43-37 lead. They blistered the nets in the second half, shooting 58.3 percent (14-for-24).
Shelton State took control of the game late in the second and turned a three-point deficit into a 10-point win.
Sophomores DJ Hamlett (Hillcrest HS), Shah Hall (Hillcrest HS) and Braynt Aijero (Missouri City, Texas) combined for 57 points and 21 rebounds and six assists in the win.
Hamlett finished with a career-high 24 points, three rebounds and six assists. He made 7-of-11 field goals attempts and 10-of-12 foul shots, all career highs.
Hall poured in a career-high 20 points and added eight rebounds. He was 8-for-10 from the floor. He has 39 points in his last two games, eclipsing his career high in both.
Aijero recorded his team-leading fourth double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bucs outrebounded the Warhawks 44-28, including 10-7 on the offensive glass. Calhoun entered the game as the No.12 team in the nation with 15.6 offensive rebounds per game.
Shelton State made 28-of-40 free throws in the win.
Calhoun (11-7, 1-1 ACCC) saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end. Sophomore Jordan Johnson paced the team with 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting.
The return to action on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Bishop State with a 7:30 p.m. game.
