Bucs Shoot Lights Out in Win at Bishop State
MOBILE - Shelton State Community College men's basketball team made its first eight three-pointers and never looked back in a 101-86 win at Bishop State on Saturday afternoon.
Shelton State (15-4, 2-1 ACCC) has eclipsed its win total from last season.
Freshman Anderson Wilkin (Tuscaloosa), Marchello Perkins (Tuscaloosa), and Fred Derrick (Huntsville) opened the game going a combined 8-for-8 beyond the three-point arc.
Anderson made four, Perkins hit three and Derrick added one behind the line.
The Bucs made 11-of-14 (.786) threes in the first half and finished the game going 13-for-21 (.618) behind the arc.
It was the best three-point shooting night against an ACCC foe since the Bucs hit 10-of-13 (.768) threes against Chatt Valley in the ACCC Tournament on March 8, 2019.
The Bucs have made 10 or more three-pointers six times this season.
Overall, the Bucs hit 36-of-52 (.682) shots from the field. The 68.2 field goal percentage is the highest in a game under head coach Joe Eatmon, dating back to his first season in 2016.
The 36 field goals made are the most this season and the most against an ACCC team since making 36 shots against WS Selma in 2023.
The Bucs had four players in double figures, led by sophomore forward Bryant Aijero's (Missouri City, Texas) fifth double-double of the season. He finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds, both career highs.
Derrick tallied 16 points, four assists and three steals.
Wilkin made all five field goal attempts and had 14 points.
Sophomore forward DJ Hamlett (Tuscaloosa) dished out a career-high nine assists.
Shelton State topped the 100-point mark for the second time this year.
The Bucs hit the century mark for the time in an ACCC game since scoring 105 points against Lawson State on March 5, 2020.
It's the first 100-point road game against an ACCC team since scoring 100 at Bevill Stare on Jan. 29, 2018.
Shelton State led 58-29 at halftime and held a 30-point lead on six different occasions during the game.
Bishop State (6-13, 0-3 ACCC) lost its fifth straight game. The Wildcats outscored the Bucs reserves 15-4 in the final three minutes.
Shelton State remains on the road for a matchup at Wallace State Hanceville on Monday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
