Bucs Sweep Hanceville; Remain in First Place in ACCC
TUSCALOOSA – The Shelton State Community College men's basketball team completed the regular-season sweep of rival Wallace State Hanceville 71-61 on Monday night in Tuscaloosa.
With the win, the Bucs (21-6, 8-3 ACCC) remain all alone in first place in the ACCC standings with three games remaining in the regular season. Gadsden State (7-4 ACCC) and Bishop State (7-4) remain in second place, one game behind the Bucs.
Wallace State Hanceville (14-13, 6-5 ACCC) fell into a fourth-place tie with Calhoun in the standings.
Shelton State defeated Hanceville 101-80 back on Feb. 9 in Hanceville and posts it first sweep over the Lions since 2022.
Sophomore Shah Hall and freshmen Rodwick Jackson and T.J. Pruitt combined for 49 of the Bucs 71 points in the win.
Hall finished with 20 points (7-10 FG) and 14 rebounds, his third double-double of the season. Jackson poured in 19 points (7-11 FG, 5-7 FT), eight rebounds and a career-high eight blocked shots. In his last two games, Jackson has 44 points (16-for-21 FG; 12-for-16 FT), 13 rebounds and six blocked shots for the Bucs. Pruitt added 10 points for his ninth double digit game of the season.
Neither team shot particularly well on Monday night. The Bucs shot 23-for-60 (.383) from the field, while the Lions were 23-for-75 (.307). Hanceville was 8-for-35 (.229) from three-point range, while Shelton State was 3-for-23 (.130).
Shelton State out-rebounded Wallace State, 46-45.
Viczarious Madden (15), Trey Knight (15) and Kylen Clark (13) all scored double figures for the Lions.
Shelton State is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 26 with a 7:30 p.m. game at Southern Union in Wadley.
