TUSCALOOSA - The Shelton State Community College softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with Coastal Alabama South.
Sophomore right-hander Mackenzie Harper (7-6) tossed her second complete game of the series in the 5-1 win in game one.
Coastal Alabama South, down to its final strike, scored two runs in the seventh inning for a 4-2 win.
Sophomore third baseman Ty Williams was the Bucs offensive star of the series.
Shelton State (25-13, 13-7 ACCC) remains in third place in the league standings.
The Bucs led 5-0 after three innings in game one.
Sophomore catcher Ragan Landrum gave the Bucs a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the second inning. Freshman Megan Wilbanks added a two-run to push the lead to 3-0.
The Bucs added two runs in the third to make it 5-0. Freshman left fielder Laila Watkins had an RBI double and sophomore shortstop Gradin Hass added an RBI single.
That was more than enough offense for Harper, who tossed her second complete game victory of the series.
Harper held the Coyotes to one run on three hits and added five strikeouts on Saturday.
In her two wins in the series, she worked 14 innings and limited the Coyotes to three runs and seven hits, with 16 strikeouts.
Coastal South (23-18, 10-10 ACCC) scored its lone run on a Sydni Carpenter ground out in the fifth.
Shelton State was one strike away from a doubleheader sweep in game two.
Freshman Karlie Beth Beasley was one strike away from her second complete-game victory in the series, but two close pitches didn't go her way and pinch-hitter Anna Graddrick tied the game with a single up the middle.
Breleigh Corley followed with an RBI double to give the Coyotes a 3-2 lead.
Beasley (8-6) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out seven.
Mackenzie Boullon (2-0) retired the Bucs in order in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Shelton State scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning when Wilbanks doubled, stole third and scored on a subsequent throwing error.
The Coyotes tied the game with an unearned run in the second inning.
Freshman Lily Vold put the Bucs in front 2-1 with a pinch-hit RBI single in the fifth inning.
The Bucs will host Gadsden State on Thursday, April 23 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
