Lady Bucs Bounce Back; Thompson Reaches Win 750
Morristown, TN- The 2nd ranked Shelton State Lady Bucs bounced back from a season opening loss on Saturday in a big way, blowing out Roane State 128-45.
The win marked career win number 750 for head coach Madonna Thompson, who became just the 11th coach all time to reach the 750 mark. Thompson is currently tied for 10th all-time on the career wins list with the legendary Harry Meeks.
"I could not be prouder of this group for their response today," said head coach Madonna Thompson. "I never dreamt of having this much success when I took this job 28 years ago, but it would not have been possible without the great players, coaches, and administrators that have been a part of this program."
6 Lady Bucs were in double figures, led by freshman Ella Wheeler with 21 points on 7-9 from the field. The other Lady Bucs to reach double figures were Alana Obianozie (20), Brianna Adams (18), Arissa Jenkins (16), Nadia Norfleet (15), and Sarah Amos (10). Nadia Norfleet dished out 10 assists for her first collegiate double-double and Haley Trotter pulled down a team high 13 rebounds.
As a team, the Lady Bucs shot 60% (49-82) from the field and 36% (9-25) from beyond the arc. Led by Norfleet, the team dished out 34 assists and had 30 steals while only turning the ball over 9 times.
The Lady Bucs wasted no time bouncing back as they sailed to 38-4 lead after the first quarter. 9 of the 10 Lady Bucs that saw the floor scored in the opening frame with 4 Lady Bucs posting 6-point quarters (Arissa Jenkins, Nadia Norfleet, Aryah Grace, and Haley Trotter).
Roane was able to find offensive success in the 2nd quarter, scoring 18, but could not handle the Lady Bucs on offense as they posted a 35-point quarter to take a 73-22 lead into the break.
The second half saw Alana Obianozie explode for 14 of her 20 points and Ella Wheeler pouring in 10 of her 21. The Lady Bucs expanded upon their lead in the 3rd quarter (23-19) and outscored Roane State by 28 (32-4) in the 4th quarter.

- Shelton State's 128 points vs. Roane State are the most scored by the Lady Bucs since a 128-49 win over Southern Union on Jan. 9, 2018.
- Shelton State's 83-point margin of victory marks the fifth time since 2015 the Lady Bucs have won a game by 80+ points.

- Shelton State led 73-22 at halftime over Roane State. The 73 points were the most scored in a half by the Lady Bucs since scoring 76 points at LB Wallace on Nov. 8, 2017. The Bucs led the Saints 76-20 at halftime in that game.
The Lady Bucs return to action on November 6 as they host 22nd ranked Itawamba at Umphrey Center at 5:30 PM.
