Lady Bucs Roll Past Itawamba, 81-51
TUSCALOOSA - The No. 2 ranked Shelton State Community College women's basketball team overcame a slow start and then rolled past No. 22 Itawamba Community College, 81-51 Thursday night.
Shelton State (2-1) trailed 10-9 after the first quarter but heated up in the second quarter to take control of the game.
Sophomore Alana Obianozie and freshman Aryah Grace combined for 16 points in the quarter to outscore the Indians.
"Obianozie did what she is supposed to do," head coach Madonna Thompson said. "She needs to make things happen for us, and she put it together in second quarter."
Obianozie scored 10 points and Grace added six points in the quarter as the Bucs led 32-14 at the break.
All 10 players scored in the game for the Lady Bucs, including 42 bench points.
"We had good production off the bench," Thompson added. "We kids than can play. We only have 10 healthy players, so if you are not playing something is wrong."
Freshman Nadia Norfleet led all scorers off the bench with 17 points. She made 5-of-10 shots, including 3 three-pointers. Norfleet was a perfect 4–for-4 at the foul line.
Freshman Kaitlyn Gipson added 11 points off the bench, hitting four of eight shots.
Obianozie finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. She was 6-of-9 from the floor.
Grace had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Former Hillcrest High standout Briyana Turner led all scorers with 23 points (10-14 FG). She added six rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Monday, Nov. 17 against East Mississippi.
