Lady Bucs Drop Close Game at College of Southern Idaho
TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The No. 9 ranked Shelton State Community College women's basketball team dropped a 69-64 game at No. 16 College of Southern Idaho in the championship game of the Battle of the Boot.
Freshman Nadia Norfleet tallied 14 points, seven assists and four rebounds to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
She finished the three-game event with 54 points (18.0 ppg), 16 assists, 14 rebounds and five steals. She made 19-of-33 (.575) field goal attempts, including eight 3-pointers. She also made all six free throws.
Shelton State (5-2) had its best 3-point shooting night of the season, knocking down 10-of-19 (.526) from beyond the arc.
The story, however, were the turnovers. The Lady Bucs had 18 turnovers which led to 21 points by the Golden Eagles.
College of Southern Idaho (8-0) also out rebounded the Lady Bucs, 37-29.
Shelton State had a 9-5 lead early in the first quarter before CSI took control of the game and 36-25 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles took its largest led of the game 42-27 with 5:56 in the third.
The Lady Bucs battled back with 33-6 run to retake the lead 50-48 on a Norfleet layup with 7:27 left.
CSI regained the lead 52-50 on a Savannah Stoker layup with 6:07 to play. The Golden Eagles never trailed again.
Samara Morrow, the tournament MVP, led the Golden Eagles with 25 points.
Sophomore Alana Obianozie led the Lady Bucs with 16 points. Freshman Ella Wheeler added 11 points.
The Lady Bucs will get a few days off first Thanksgiving before returning to action at East Mississippi in Scooba on Monday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
