Lady Bucs Blowout Lions, 92-42
SCOOBA, Miss. – Shelton State Community College women's basketball team placed four players in double figures and cruised to a 92-42 win over East Mississippi Community College at the Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
Freshmen Nadia Norfleet, Ella Wheeler and Aryah Grace, and sophomore Alana Obianozie all scored double digits in Monday night's blowout win.
Norfleet (Tupelo, Miss.) led all scorers with a game-high 18 points. Wheeler (Sulligent) and Grace (Meridian, Miss) both chipped in 14 points. Obianozie (Huntsville) added 13 for the Lady Bucs.
Norfleet made 8-of-15 shots, including a pair of three-pointers. She also added three rebounds and two assists. Wheeler was 5-of-8 from the floor with three three-pointers. She added a season-high five assists. Grace was 3-for-3 at the foul line and pulled down five rebounds. Obianozie made a career-best seven free throws (7-for-7) at the foul line for the Lady Bucs. She added six rebounds and tied her with eight steals.
Shelton State (6-2) led 31-11 after the first quarter, marking the fifth time this season the Lady Bucs hit the 30-point mark in the first 10 minutes. The Lady Bucs jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game and later added a 15-0 run late in the quarter to extend the lead to 20 points. Sophomore Arissa Jenkins (Haines City, Fla.) and Haley Trotter (Chelsea) both had six points in the opening quarter.
Jenkins finished with six points and tied her career high with nine rebounds. Trotter added six points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Brianna Adams (Adamsville) scored seven points in the second quarter as the Lady Bucs pushed to lead to 50-23 at halftime.
Adams finished with seven points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Shelton State led 67-34 after three quarters, scoring 17 points in the third quarter. The Bucs were 8-for-8 at the foul line in the third quarter.
Shelton State outscored the Lions 25-8 in the final quarter for the 50-point win. Wheeler had nine points in the fourth quarter and Norfleet tallied seven for the Lady Bucs.
The Lady Bucs made 31 field goals in the win and hit 23-of-30 (.767) free throws.
Shelton State returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 4 at Itawamba Community College.
