No. 13 Lady Bucs Pick Up Road Win
FULTON, Miss. - The 13th ranked Shelton State Community College women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to post a 70-58 win over Itawamba Community College.
Shelton State (7-2) held ICC without a field goal for the first 7:59 of the quarter turned a 16-1 run into a 51-38 lead.
The game was tied 35-35 at halftime and the Indians scored the first two points of the third quarter, before the Bucs seemingly put the game out of reach.
The Lady Bucs grabbed the lead on three-point basket by freshman Nadia Norfleet (Tupelo, Miss.) to take a 38-37 lead. Freshman Aryah Grace (Meridian, Miss.) hit a jumper and Norfleet followed with another basket to push the lead to 42-37.
Grace dropped in back-to-back buckets to stretch the lead to 46-37. Sophomore Arissa Jenkins (Haines City, Fla.) hit a basket and sophomore Brianna Adams (Adamsville) hit basket and free throw to the give the Lady Bucs a 51-38 edge.
ICC (6-5) scored the first six points of the fourth quarter and trailed by only seven with about two minutes left before Shelton State closed out the win.
Shelton State trailed 21-16 after one quarter, despite 10 points from Grace.
The Lady Bucs had an 11-0 run
In the second quarter to grab a 31-24 lead. The Lady Indians answered with seven eight points to take 32-31 lead.
Norfleet ended a nearly six-minute scoring drought with a jumper with under a minute left to give the Lady Bucs a 35-32 lead. ICC drained a three-pointer to close the half at 35-35.
Grace led all scorers with a season-high 23 points, hitting eight field goals and five free throws. It was her second 20-point game of the year.
Norfleet finished the night with 11 points, giving her double figures in all nine games.
Sophomore Alana Obianozie (Madison) added nine points and six rebounds.
Freshman Haley Trotter (Chelsea) finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Adams collected seven points and a career-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Monday, Dec. 8 with a 5:30 p.m. game against Pearl River in Tuscaloosa.
