Lady Bucs Blowout South Georgia Tech
TUSCALOOSA - The No. 12 Shelton State Community College Lady Bucs overcame a slow start and then sprinted past South Georgia Tech for a 84-51 victory in the Shelton State Classic.
Shelton State (10-2) missed its first 11 three-point and trailed into the second quarter.
Freshman Haley Trotter scored the Lady Bucs first three-pointer with 7:19 left in the second period to put her team up 21-18.
South Georgia Tech's Jaiden Elam tied the game at 21-21 with a three-pointer with 6:39 left.
Trotter answered with another three-pointer to put the Bucs in front 24-21 with 5:32 left.
The Lady Bucs never looked back.
Trotter finished with 12 points, including three, three-pointers, and eight rebounds.
Sophomore Alana Obianizie recorded her first double-double of the season, with 17 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
"I had to makeup for my performance (Saturday)," Obianizie said. "It was not one of my better games, so I came today ready to go and I thought the whole team played well."
The Lady Bucs were 31-for-83 from the floor, and hit 13-of-38 beyond the arc.
Shelton State didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but they made up for it on defense.
The Lady Bucs scored 31 points off 25 turnovers and held the Lady Jets to four points in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Nadia Norfleet added 19 points, six assists and three rebounds.
Obiaonizie and Norfleet were named the Shelton State Classic All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Arissa Jenkins (8), sophomore Bri Adams (7) and Kaitlyn Gibson (7) combined for 22 points off the bench.
Ja'Niyah Broome scored 22 for the Lady Jets and made the All-Tournament Team.
Shelton State will have a break for Christmas before returning to action at the South Georgia Tech Holiday Classic in Americus, Ga., on Dec. 29-31.
Three Rivers 87, Kilgore 67
No. 9 Three Rivers (14-2) improved to 4-0 all-time at the Shelton State Classic with an 87-67 win over Kilgore.
The Lady Raiders shot 57.6 percent (34-for-58) from the floor, including 67.9 (19-for-28) in second half.
Samayah Jordan led the way with 26 points. She scored 42 points in the two tournament games.
Amelia Corasaniti added 18 points and seven rebounds.
Both Jordan and Corasaniti made the All-Tournament Team.
Ja'Sani Green poured in 26 points for the Lady Rangers en route to All-Tournament Team honors.
Chipola 78, Walters State 60
No. 2 Chipola (11-0) remained unbeaten with a 78-60 win over Walter State.
The Lady Indians out-rebounded the Lady Rangers, 51-34.
Serena Heeren (19-12) and Taylor Reitvald (14-11) both made the All-Tournament Team after collecting double-doubles on Sunday.
Nyjah Gibbs had 16 points to pace the Lady Senators. She was tabbed to the All-Tournament Team.
