Lady Bucs Win 12th Straight
MOBILE - No. 8 Shelton Community College women's basketball team won its 12th straight game with a 66-56 win at Bishop State on Saturday.
Bishop State scored the first four points of the game and led 12-9 midway through the first quarter.
Shelton State (17-2, 3-0 ACCC) scored the final 10 points of the quarter to take a 19-12 lead.
Freshman Nadia Norfleet's (Tupelo, Miss.) jumper with just over three minutes left put the Bucs ahead to stay.
The Lady Bucs made six field goals, including 3 three-pointers in the second quarter to take a 36-27 halftime lead.
Freshman guard Haley Trotter (Chelsea) scored seven of her nine points in the third quarter giving the Bucs a 53-39 lead.
Bishop State (9-10, 1-2 ACCC) used an 8-0 run at the end of the third quarter and start of fourth quarter to cut the lead to 53-47 with just over nine minutes left in the game.
The Lady Bucs quickly put out the fire with a 7-2 run to take a 62-49 lead. The run was started by back-to-back baskets by Arissa Jenkins (Haines City, Fla.) and Bri Adams(Adamsville).
Shelton State made 20-of-51 (.392) shots in the win. The Lady Bucs made 7-of-24 (.281) three-pointers and 5-of-12 (.417) free throws.
Norfleet and fellow freshman Aryah Grace (Meridian, Miss.) were the only two in double figures.
Norfleet tallied 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Lady Bucs.
Grace added 13 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Bucs pulled down 58 rebounds in the win, including 38 defensive boards. Shelton State had six players with five or more rebounds.
Trotter led the way with 10 rebounds. It was her sixth double-digit rebound game of the season.
Adams pulled down a career-high 9 rebounds.
Freshmen Kaitlyn Gipson (Hoover) and Jenkins had six rebounds.
Cristyle Mauldin paced the Lady Wildcats with a game-high 23 points. She made eight field goals and five free throws in the loss.
Shelton State remains on the road for a matchup at undefeated Wallace State Hanceville on Monday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
