Lady Bucs Hit Season-High 3-Pointers; Collects 20th Win
GADSDEN - The No. 6 Shelton State Community College women's basketball team made a season-high 14 three-pointers en route to an 82-59 win over Gadsden State Community College at historic Beck Field House.
Shelton State (20-2, 6-0 ACCC) hit the 20-win plateau for the 26th consecutive season. The Lady Bucs have now won 15 consecutive games, the fourth-longest active streak in NJCAA Division I women's basketball,
The Lady Bucs made 14-of-44 (.318) three-point attempts on Monday night against the Lady Cardinals. The 14 makes and 44 attempts are both season highs.
Freshman Aryah Grace (Meridan, Miss.) paced the Lady Bucs with a career-high 27 points and a career-high six, three-pointers. She scored the first eight points of the game and ended the quarter with 14 points. She made three 3-pointers in the first quarter. Grace had 19 points and halftime and made on three-pointer in the second quarter. She closed the game with a pair of three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Grace has hit double-digits in seven straight games, averaging 20.1 points per game. She has 16 double-figure games on the season, including three 20-point games.
Freshman Ella Wheeler (Sulligent) sank a career-high four, three-pointers and finished the game with 12 points,
Freshman Haley Trotter (Chelsea) made two three-pointers and finished with eight points and two rebounds.
Freshman Nadia Norfleet (Tupelo, Miss.) connected on one three-pointer and had 10 points. She also added six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore Alana Obianozie (Madison) collected eight points and made one three-pointer. In addition, she added nine rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Shelton State used a 13-0 run midway through the first quarter to build a 24-8 lead. Grace and Trotter combined for 22 of the 24 points in the first quarter. In the last three meetings, the Lady Bucs have outscored Gadsden State 85-18 in the first quarter.
Grace scored 19 first-half points to give the Lady Bucs a 45-26 halftime lead.
The Lady Bucs hit three of their first four three-pointers to start the third quarter and led 68-41 after three quarters.
Gadsden State (9-11, 1-4 ACCC) dropped its fourth straight game. Katelyn St. Clair led the Lady Cardinals with 14 points.
Shelton State pulled down 37 rebounds and handed out 21 assists in the win. It was the fourth time the Lady Bucs have had 20 or more assists this season.
Shelton State will host Coastal Alabama South on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
