Lady Bucs Win 17th Straight
TUSCALOOSA - The No. 5 ranked Shelton State Community College women's basketball team won its 17th straight game with a 78-54 win over Lawson State.
Shelton State (22-2, 8-0 ACCC) has the fourth-longest winning streak among NJCAA Division I teams.
The Lady Bucs led 25-10 after the first quarter and 45-20 at halftime. Shelton State forced 16 first-half turnovers.
"We had a mindset to start fast and dominate," sophomore Alana Obianozie said. "Our defense forced a lot of mistakes and we took advantage."
Shelton State had four players in double figures.
Freshman Nadia Norfleet led the way with 21 points, five assists and four rebounds.
It was her third 20-point game of the season and second straight.
Obianozie had 13 points and 12 rebounds. It was her second double-double against the Cougars this season. She had 15 points and 10 rebounds at Lawson State on Jan. 15.
Freshman Aryah Grace had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Grace, who is the reigning ACCC Player of the Week, has nine straight double figure games.
Freshman Haley Trotter added 11 points and eight rebounds. She fouled out late in the fourth quarter for the first time in her career at any level.
Shelton State pulled down 50 rebounds and had 17 assists on 25 made baskets.
The Lady Bucs made 21-of-26 (.808) foul shots in the win.
Lawson State (11-13, 4-4 ACCC) ended the game with 26 turnovers.
The Lady Bucs return to the floor on Monday, Feb. 16 at Calhoun Community College for a 5:30 p.m. start.
