Lady Bucs Capture ACCC Championship; Rout Coastal South
BAY MINETTE – The No. 5 ranked Shelton State Community College women's basketball team clinched its 12th straight ACCC regular season championship with an 85-40 win over Coastal Alabama South on Thursday night at Jack Robertson Arena.
Shelton State (27-3, 13-1 ACCC) shares the conference championship with Wallace State Hanceville (28-1, 13-1 ACCC). The two teams split their two-game series during the regular season with both teams winning on the road. Shelton State won 45-43 at Hanceville on Jan. 31. Hanceville won 45-43 in Tuscaloosa on Feb. 23. A coin flip to decide the No. 1 and No. 2 seed at next week's ACCC Tournament in Talladega will be Friday.
Shelton State has held 14 opponents under 50 points this season, including the last four games. The Lady Bucs defeated Coastal Alabama South 101-53 and 85-40 in two meeting this season.
Freshman Aryah Grace and sophomores Bri Adams and Arissa Jenkins all scored double figures for the Lady Bucs.
Grace led the way with 14 points, her 23rd double-figure scoring game of the season. Adams finished with 12 points (4-for-7 FG) and Jenkins poured in 11 points (4-for-6 FG), including two, three-pointers.
Shelton State shot 45.2 percent (33-for-73) from the floor, including eight three-pointers.
The Lady Bucs recorded 20 steals in the win, the most in ACCC game this season. Sophomore Alana Obianozie recorded six steals in the win. A total of nine different players at least one steal on Thursday.
Coastal Alabama South (16-13, 3-11 ACCC) saw its season come to an end.
